I Am More . . .

“I Am More … “
A deeply personal personal piece. For me it’s symbolic of an emotional and physical rebirth. 

The last couple of years I’ve had some horrible things come up for me; repressed memories of sexual assault, diagnoses of PTSD, Major depressive disorder, acute anxiety disorder. I’ve been diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease on top of the Celiac Disease I’m already dealing with. My cat that I’ve had since I was 7 died at the age of 19. I almost killed myself. I went to the hospital for a week to recover on a psych ward.
I’ve had to quit my jobs, (go on hiatus for one of them) and move back home with my parents because my physical health is so poor.
But I am not my sicknessness. I am not my mental illnesses. I am not my pain. I am so much more.
I am in therapy and I am seeing an incredible doctor. I am on the road to healing and I can feel it. I am not pausing my life, despite barely being able to leave my bedroom some days. I am taking online art classes and I am learning new things. I am working on my book almost every day. I am reading, both fiction and books to help me learn and grow.
I am more than you see. I am breaking out of my chrysalis.

Technical Info:
Holbien and Windsor Newton Watercolors on Arches Rough 300gsm/140lb Watercolor Paper, with metallic silver ink and metallic gold prismacolor markers. 

This was a learning experience. It’s not executed as perfectly as I would have liked and looking at it now I feel there are things I could have portrayed better. However, overall, given that I’m only just now beginning to get into water color very seriously, I am quite proud of the end result. 

Swing From the Stars - Doctor Who

Last year I attended Salt Lake City Comic Con (again) and Matt Smith and Alex Kingston were there! I knew they'd been invited ahead of time and set to work on this piece with the intent of them autographing it for me.
I made a print of it for each of them and presented that to them at the time of signing. Both of them were incredibly gracious and kind. It was a really fantastic experience.
So here is the finished version before autographing and after.

Orson and Whiskey

Characters from a story belonging to a friend and I. One day I hope to do a graphic novel or a comic of these two. ONE DAY.

Orson is an English gardener that lives in Scotland. After a storm he finds Whiskey in a puddle, suffocating. He saves her life and later they find a way for her to get legs, but still be able to switch to her mermaid form when she's in water.

These first two are an experimental style. I doodled this pretty fast and actually really love the result. If I do a comic or graphic novel it may end up in a similar style.
And then of course I had to put some color on it for fun.

I was given copic markers as an early Christmas gift from the person Whiskey's character belongs to. (I may have cried of joy.)

 I used those for this! And gave this to her as an early Christmas gift.

Melody Costume Line Up

My character Melody Harper, in a few various outfit possibilities. She's usually in the first one, the skirt and the bodice, or something similar to that. And she's usually got a frying pan or a meat cleaver to hand.
This was incredibly fun to do. I plan to do more like it.
